Ahh, Buzzards!

That's what I encountered as I turned the corner onto our road... Why would there be buzzards? The answer is inevitable. Something has died... Sure enough, one of our precious sweet kitties lay there, dead as a doornail. It was shocking and wretched all at the same time. I had left just a half hour before to pick up Aiden from school and said good bye to our three kitties as they sat in there spots next to the driveway. Who knew in that short amount of time I would loose a precious catty (which is what Izzy calls them). What a horrible feeling to see buzzards picking apart your freshly killed catty. I bawled as I called Ben to ask him what I should do with it. Then I had to walk up the road to it and use a stick to push it's broken little body off the road. I really didn't want to see it's guts so I genuinely hoped the buzzards would come back for dinner but they haven't. Now I'm just waiting for a friend to bring their shovel and toss it over the fence so my kids don't keep asking to see it again. Sad and gross and sad again. My first death in the old country. We did make a little cross in rembrance of Suzie, God rest her soul.

Well, it sounds like you have finally been introduced to the true Texas....a harsh, but beautiful land where even the dead kitties don't go to waste....gross, but true! Just sorry that your were traumatized by the experience. In my experience, the worst things about buzzards are their smell, but then that is understandable given their diet!

Doesn't Campy count as a first death in the country?

So sorry to hear about Suzie! I feel your pain as we lost our loyal dog Hawkeye this week too. It's so sad...

I like when Lori wants to rip suzie. I'm not sure thats a healthy response.

Kristen brings up a good point. I fogot about that turd of a bird, Campy. I suppose he counts...

Lesa, exactly how close have you been to buzzards? You've smelled them?

I'd like to point out that that brings the Ries's pet death count, in less than 6 months to 2. Small lovable animals beware.
Do you think it's possible the buzzards killed the kitty?

(* Sigh * A homeschool father's job in never done!)

Children, "RIP" stands for "Rest In Peace," hence, Lori's response was a word of comfort and consolation.

Wait a sec! Lori didn't capitolize or punctuate. Was she speaking to Suzie or was she speaking to the buzzards? Yikes! Maybe she ordered a hit job on the catty kit!

One of the teachers at Emma's school tells the children who recently experienced the death of a catty to "just throw it over the fence and get a new one."

That's pretty good advice that I would suggest to anyone...unless it is your wife who is crying on the other end of the phone. In that case, I've learned to just cry with her, talk about how sad you are, and not mention how thankful you are that you only have to pay to feed two cats instead of three. Wisdom is a precious gift, my friends! May the Lord bless you with just a portion of what he has granted me.

I have only smelled them in the zoo, where they are given fairly fresh meat and they stunk then, but my uncle and grandfather both had close encounters with buzzards (John Quinten had one come through a windshield into his lap- UCK!). Their first comment was always how absolutely overwhelming the stench was!

It must be the house Jen. When we lived there we went through eleven... yes! I said it! Eleven cats. I wish your other two cats might live long enough to enjoy the incestuous and fertile lives that our own did.

Dad, I did the exact thing you just did in my x-mas card to Tara! I wish I had that game. I'm so good at it. I always seem to walk around thinking about different ways to say things, though. Ernst doogle ad debt wear some muggle Ike? whoah. That was hard. I couldn't think of anything for "much".

1: I don't like it when Ryan rips farts at church. I don't think God likes it either.

Yeah, Jen! There's another good reason for you guys to drive to OKC! At Thanksgiving and at Cooper Xmas last weekend, I could get no one to play BabbleOn (that's Mad Gab, Tara) with me.

I'll pack it if you drive it!
