Suggestions?

Alright. I need some advice. This is my front door. To the left is a covered car port. There is cement and wall. How can I make my front door area welcoming and pretty when I don't have dirt or rain or sun? What do I do with that empty
space next to the door? There will be a surprise for the best and least expensive idea...

I say a piece of white lattice from the roof up there down to the ground along the left edge of the stairs with some vine growing on it (if there's enough sunlight for that).

my suggestion is to rip off the awsome astroturf...unless you plan on playing mini golf on your porch. then i would just get a couple terrcotta pots and plant a few flowers or little shrubs (heehhe ive never written that word and it looks funny) and just line the edge of the steps with them. especialy since it is summer now- the plant are on sale cause theyre clearancing them out.

after you take off the astroturf, you can paint the steps with concrete paint, they have great natural colors and it really brightens up the place! Good luck.

3 words. Drive-in theater. That concrete wall is perfect for projecting movies on. You get you a video projector or have Ben bring one home from church, then fill the carport with chairs and friends, pop some popcorn, and you got an outdoor party! What could be more welcoming than that?

(Plants and pots might say "hey we live here", but full-on movie nights say "come hang with us!")

i like the idea of painting the concrete stairs a different color (something bright, but welcoming and homey--maybe UT orange!!)...anywho, put some plants in some plant stands next to the high part (whatever it's called)...

I love astro turf, and hope that one day i might have it instead of grass. Then I will have potaot sack races and be a happy Brady.

Thanks fore all the contributions. They were outstanding. We talked to our landlord and have permission to take off the Astroturf! I think we'll be doing a combination of all of them. Jason, love the theater idea. Working on that one! We'll take pictures when we do it. As for the contest winner, I think Jason's idea was most creative even though it wasn't about decor. Your reward will be forth coming...

whatever! i want a re-do! jasons was not the least expensive...so if money is no object then i propose you leave that awsome astro turf and hire someone to install a whole putt-putt mini golf extravaganza- windmill and all.
