Stupid Cat!

"I'm gonna leave you in Sidney!"

So as I was waking up this morning I heard Aiden's feet walking in the hallway and then a loud noise on the outside of the house. I thought, "I wonder what that was?" We went on with our morning and after the kids got ready Ben decided to see if he could take a picture of the little nest on our front porch that has new baby birds in it. Do you know what that earlier sound was? It was the sound of our cat knocking that poor nest out of the corner of the porch! How evil! I was sad but then I realized Stripers still had something and it was flying/fluttering around in between catches. I thought maybe I could save it! I ran to get my shoes on and shot out the door. I yelled at the cat and she darted into the bushes. I searched quickly for any sign of life and then heard a kitty scary noise like, "I'm gonna eat you noise because I'm ferocious and scary!" I then realized she had it with her in the bushes. There was nothing more I could do...

Except maybe leave her to die in Sidney while I move to bird haven Washington... I haven't decided. But I might...

"The circle of Life..." was all Ben had to say.

Aiden and I saw a little tiny wing on the sidewalk as we were heading to school. He asked me what it was and I told him it was a wing from one of the little baby birds that his cat killed. He said, "That's sad...my cat is pretty strong, huh?"

sad, very sad. i didn't really want to know. about the circle of life, that is. i like to think that all birds fly up to heaven. and not die by little paws of cats.

I like that you guys are honest with your kids. You never try to cover things up. For instance, someone else might have said the wing was actually a simple little feather floating around or a stick or something, in order to protect my child from the terrible image of their cat killing a poor defenseless bird. But you do not shelter your kids from the cruelty of this world, and for that you should be proud.
